What is real here

This site shows what is broken on the internet right now, across North America, Europe and South America. It is affiliated with none of the companies on it, sells nothing, and every number is counted when the page is served.

Two kinds of evidence, never mixed

Reported. 142 companies publish a machine-readable status endpoint — Atlassian Statuspage, or their own JSON — and this reads them live every two minutes. If OpenAI says it is degraded, that is OpenAI's word, shown as OpenAI's word, with a link to their page. On the last read 140 of 142 answered. No API key is involved anywhere, so this pipeline cannot quietly stop working when a key expires.

Measured. 93 carrier and ISP networks are watched a completely different way, because they left no choice.

The carriers publish nothing, so this site does not quote them

Every one of these was probed for a status endpoint: AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Comcast, Charter Spectrum, Cox, Lumen, Frontier, Starlink, Rogers, Bell, Telus, BT, Virgin Media, Vodafone, EE, Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Telefónica, TIM, KPN, Swisscom, Telia, Claro, Vivo, Entel and the rest. Not one of them has one. Most do not even resolve a status. hostname.

That is the most tempting place on a site like this to invent something — a green dot beside “Verizon” that means nothing at all. So instead this site reports what can actually be observed from outside: reachability to each network's ASN, via IODA, Georgia Tech's public Internet Outage Detection and Analysis project. IODA watches each network three independent ways — BGP routing tables, active pings to /24 blocks, and a network telescope.

The wording follows the evidence everywhere. Never “Verizon reports an outage”. Always: reachability to their network is below its own baseline. Every row is stamped measured or reported, and the two are never averaged into one number.

The map

The map is the same measurement at country scale: 50 countries across the three continents, each dot placed from an approximate centroid on an equirectangular grid. A dot is a reachability reading, not a border and not a claim about a government. It cannot tell you a city, a street, or your own connection — a country can read perfectly while your provider is down.

One request, not one per network

Fetching a detail signal for every network and country meant 143 calls per refresh, and doing that got this developer's own address refused by IODA inside an hour. So the board is driven by IODA's alert feed, which names every entity currently in trouble in a single call; detail signals are fetched only for entities actually alerting, which is usually a handful and often none. On the last read the feed answered, naming 401 entities worldwide, of which 2 were followed up in detail.

What this site refuses to do

It does not scrape crowd reports. Downdetector and its kind are other people's data, sit behind a bot wall, and their terms say no. There is no “reports in the last hour” figure here, because getting one honestly is not possible.

It does not invent history. There is no uptime percentage, because this site has not been watching long enough to have one. When it has, it will say over what window.

It does not call a failed read “healthy”. If a wire fails, everything behind it reads no answer and the footer says so. Silence is not good news.
